It finally happened. After months of speculation, the Memphis Grizzlies traded their star point guard, Ja Morant.
Ja Morant Traded to Blazers in Blockbuster Deal
According to ESPN senior NBA Insider, Shams Charania, Morant is being moved to the Portland Trail Blazers. For a package that includes Jerami Grant and Kris Murray.
Morant is now the final piece off the chessboard from the Grizzlies core group of franchise cornerstones. In 2025, they traded shooting guard Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic. And they traded standout big man Desmond Bane to the Utah Jazz back at the NBA trade deadline in February. Signaling toward the franchise entering an all-out rebuild.

Of course, once the news was broken, social media went into an uproar.
“What a fall from grace. From being the next potential face of the league in 2021 to being traded for Jerami Grant and Kris Murray. Unreal,” one person wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Nothing else I can say, man. Take care of him, Portland, please,” a second user chimed in.
“Not really insane at all. Clearly, the owner just wants to make money. Smart move,” a third user remarked.
Morant was supposed to be the player who ushered the Grizzlies into the future. But a series of off-the-court issues combined with an unfavorable injury history ultimately spelled the end of his tenure in Memphis.
But at just 26 years old, Morant still has a lot left to offer to NBA teams. And with a Blazers team that surprised a lot of people with their 42-40 record and a seventh seed in the Western Conference last season. It could be the perfect place for Morant to reignite his All-Star career.
