Ever since the verdict was handed down in the high-profile Diddy trial in May, the hip-hop world has been on pins and needles awaiting the day he was sentenced. Friday (October 3) was judgment day for the Bad Boy Records founder. Judge Arun Subramanian handed down a four-year sentence to the music mogul.
Inmate Allegedly Tried to Shank Diddy in Prison
Diddy appeared in court at 10:00 am on the East Coast. But he did not learn his fate until just before 5:00 p.m. That is because there were still points to be considered by both the prosecution and the defense ahead of his sentencing.
One of the revelations that was made in those statements was that an attack on Diddy’s life was made while he was in lockup. According to one of his attorneys, Brian Steel.
“I have been there when Sean has prayed for healing for anyone he has heard. It is now 12 months and 17 days in MDC. Certain people gain prestige if they hurt him. The guard stopped a man with a shank,” Steel said on court on Friday via InnerCityPress.
Combs was allowed to address Judge Subramanian ahead of his sentencing.
In his first statement since his arrest, one of the first things he did was issue an apology. To his ex-girlfriend and label artist, Cassie Ventura.
“One of the hardest things I’ve had to handle was having to be quiet and not being able to express how sorry I am for my actions,” he said (Via HotNewHipHop). “I want to personally apologize to Cassie Ventura for any harm I have caused her emotionally or physically. I don’t take that lightly and I would like to apologize to her family, I am so sorry.”
Cassie, in a lot of ways, was the catalyst for Friday’s verdict. It was her civil suit against the music mogul that kicked off everything. After she and Diddy settled out of court, others began to come forward alleging that Diddy also abused them. That was key in the feds’ opening up an investigation into Combs and ultimately arresting him last September.
