During a recent sit-down on Talk With Flee, J. Cole shared his thoughts on the intense public reaction surrounding the Drake and Kendrick Lamar moment, calling out what he viewed as extreme division among fans.
Speaking with Cam’ron, Cole compared the atmosphere to politics, saying, “The world became like politics, you either Democrat or Republican. You either Kendrick, or you Drake.” He explained that the polarized reactions took away from what should have been a moment to appreciate both artists.
Cole made it clear that while he respected and was proud of Kendrick Lamar and the moment he had, he was equally uncomfortable with how quickly people rushed to tear down Drake.
“I was disgusted both ways, damn near,” Cole admitted. He went on to criticize what he described as a “campaign” against Drake, saying the situation got “out of hand” as fans used the moment to push narratives that downplayed Drake’s impact and greatness.
Cole’s comments add a more nuanced perspective to the ongoing conversation, highlighting the dangers of turning competitive moments in Hip-Hop into one-sided takedowns rather than celebrating the culture as a whole.
