Dame Dash is back in the news amid his latest exchange with Joe Budden. And as the case has been with most of his recent exchanges, Roc-A-Fella is at the epicenter of it all.
Joe Budden, Dame Dash Exchange Words Over Roc-A-Fella
This all started after Dame made comments about all of the former Roc-A-Fella artists turning into podcasters. And he named Budden as one of the examples. During a recent episode of the Joe Budden Podcast, the Pump It Up creator hit back against those claims.
“I was Roc-A-Fella for 79 seconds, and I keep it a secret. It’s not something I run around promoting or am proud of. I ain’t released an album on Roc-A-Fella, I ain’t put a song out on Roc-A-Fella, I didn’t get a Roc-A-Fella chain, I ain’t got a Roc-A-Fella cup of coffee,” Budden said (via HotNewHipHop). I didn’t get a Roc-A-Fella penny. So when you’re having these Roc-A-Fella conversations […] keep me out of that. I’m not a Roc-A-Fella rapper, artist, or podcaster. I don’t have anything to do with that, none of that sh*t.”
Dash responded to Budden’s comments during a recent interview with Cam Capone News. Dash added context to his previous statement. The music executive said that he worked with Budden during his time with Roc-A-Fella and didn’t want to sign him. But the decision was not solely for him to make.
“Just because I was CEO doesn’t mean that I could just make moves. I had to get approval from Jay, Lyor, Biggs, and myself, and then everyone would have to sign off on it,” he said.
He also noted that at the time he began working with Budden, it was right before the label was sold.
“When I started doing business with Joe Budden, it was towards the end,” he added.”So it was one of those situations where we voted, and Jay-Z voted no, but Biggs voted yes. But then, you know, there was no more Roc-A-Fella.”
