Retired NBA power forward Kenyon Martin doubled down on his criticism of Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green on the latest episode of Gil’s Arena.
Kenyon Martin Doubles Down on Draymond Green Criticism
During the latest episode, Martin asserted that the Warriors star would have been an “afterthought” if they played in the same era.
“We’re talking basketball here. Individual, what you stand on, your merit. You would have been an afterthought in my era, and I stand on it,” he said of Draymond.

Green has enjoyed a mass of success since being drafted by the Warriors. He has won four NBA Championships, been voted the NBA Defensive Player of the Year, and has been voted an All-Star on multiple occasions. However, Kenyon Martin’s assertion has been that Green has only enjoyed as much success as he has due to his playing with future Hall of Famers such as Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, and Klay Thompson.
However, Martin’s co-host, Nick Young, who won a championship with Green and the Warriors in 2018, offered some interesting perspective. He noted that Martin also played with a Hall of Fame point guard in Jason Kidd. And together they only made one NBA Finals appearance.
“Draymond had a top 5 point guard and won. You had a top 5 point guard carry you to the NBA Finals, and you lost. Maybe if you played your role instead of scoring, you would have a ring,” Young responded.

Martin then retorted, noting that he “did [his] job” while he was Kidd’s teammate on the New Jersey Nets. But Young hit back, saying that “obviously” wasn’t the case. In 2004, the Nets traded Martin to the Denver Nuggets for three first-round picks. Martin also ended his career with just one NBA All-Star appearance, no NBA Championships, and never being a finalist for the NBA MVP award.
