It’s been said a while ago that the Fast and Furious franchise would be ending with its 11th movie. While there are rumors of potential spinoffs to come, we just learned that there is actually one in the works now that would involve long-time friends, The Rock and Kevin Hart. The Rock is set to reprise his role in the franchise as Luke Hobbs in a yet untitled spinoff before ‘Fast X: Part 2’ hits theatres in 2025.
For The Rock, this will be his 5th time in front of the Fast and Furious cameras as he starred in ‘Fast 5’, ‘Fast and Furious 6’, ‘Furious 7’, and ‘Fast 8’ before jumping to his own spinoff with ‘Shaw and Hobbs’. For Hart, this would be his second go-round. While he did have a short cameo (no pun intended), hopefully, he gets a larger role in the new film and possibly make his way to ‘Fast X: Part 2’ as well.
This is huge news as The Rock has gone on record stating that he would not return to the franchise after a very public feud with Fast and Furious star and producer, Vin Diesel over the last few years. What has changed over time? Well, to be honest, the Rock’s last few movies have not been received well in either the theaters or on small screen. So, making his way back to this billion-dollar franchise seems like a smart move.

Spanning their careers, Hart and Johnson have appeared in 5 movies together. Needless to say, they have chemistry but is that chemistry enough to save Johnson’s movie career? His spinoff is sure to be a hit as fans have asked for his return to the franchise since his last appearance in ‘The Fate of The Fast and Furious (Fast 8)’.
With Hart and Ryan Reynolds set to reprise their roles, there are sure to be plenty of laughs in the movie. While we can sit and question the timing of it all, fans who saw ‘Fast X’ knew that Johnson would be making a return thanks to the end-credit scene where he received a call from Dante. But to learn that he would star in his own spinoff before the conclusion of the saga set off a few alarms.
Last summer Vin and I put all the past behind us. We’ll lead with brotherhood and resolve – and always take care of the franchise, characters & FANS that we love.
The Shaw and Hobbs movie was shot in the midst of the beef between him and Diesel but to learn that there will be another may be asking for more trouble down the road. However, according to both actors, the past is behind them and they have settled their issues. At the end of the day, this is a business that’s all about the bottom line and the almighty dollar. By adding this new movie, Diesel as a producer of this film as well, is set to take home major bank. Seems like a wise decision to end the feud now and get paid.
