Gucci Mane’s wife, Keyshia Ka’oir, revealed she tried to stop him from doing his highly anticipated Verzuz battle against Jeezy back in late 2020 — even offering him a million dollars to back out.

In a new interview with The Breakfast Club, Gucci and Ka’oir sat down to discuss their relationship, mental health, and more. Around the 19:40 mark, Ka’oir recalled her strong reaction when Gucci first mentioned the battle.

“I told him not to,” she admitted. “I said, ‘You’re not doing that. I will pay you a million dollars not to do this.’”

Gucci confirmed her story, laughing as he added, “She told me that. I swear to God. She was like, ‘I’ll pay you a million dollars not to do the Verzuz.’ I said, ‘I’m gonna do the Verzuz.’”

The Verzuz matchup between Gucci and Jeezy carried heavy tension, especially when Gucci performed his 2012 diss track “Truth.” The song includes the infamous line, “Go dig your partner up, n***a, bet he can’t say shit,” a direct reference to Jeezy’s late associate Pookie Loc — whom Gucci shot and killed in self-defense during a 2005 altercation. The murder charges were later dropped.

Gucci recalled initially being hesitant when he heard Jeezy wanted to do a Verzuz. “I seen an interview where Jeezy was saying, like, ‘If I do a Verzuz, I want to do it with Gucci,’” he said. “At first, I didn’t know if I wanted to do it. But when they broke down the business side — how much good could come from it — I said, ‘Okay, I’ll do it.’”

Ka’oir clarified that her concerns weren’t about Gucci’s mental health, but rather the potential for things to escalate. “I was pregnant at home, and he didn’t want me there,” she said. “I’m in bed watching like everyone else — scared.”

Despite the tension, Gucci said he ultimately respected how Jeezy handled the moment. He also shared a story about an awkward run-in with his former rival before the battle.

“He’s sitting in my seat on the plane,” Gucci recalled. “I didn’t even want to talk to him, but I had to tell him, ‘Hey man, you in my seat.’ He goes, ‘Can you sit in mine?’ I said, ‘No, you just got to get up.’ And he got up and moved.”

The 2020 Verzuz battle between Gucci Mane and Jeezy remains one of the most memorable — not just for the music, but for the history and healing it represented for Atlanta Hip-Hop.
