In a recent appearance on the 247HH Podcast, legendary producer Mannie Fresh reflected on a pivotal moment in his career following his departure from Cash Money Records. The iconic beatmaker, known for crafting hits for the Hot Boys, Lil Wayne, Juvenile, and others, admitted that he genuinely feared his music career might have ended when he walked away from the label that made him famous.
“My first opportunity after Cash Money was Jeezy’s ‘And Then What,’” Mannie explained. “And I remember thinking, what if this fails? What if this doesn’t work or isn’t received well? That thought really hit me hard.”
The uncertainty was short-lived. Mannie recalled attending one of Jeezy’s shows at The House of Blues in New Orleans, where the Atlanta rapper closed his set with the track. “When Jeezy performed it at the end of his show, the whole place went crazy,” Mannie said. “That’s when I knew—I was back.”
The success of “And Then What” marked a defining comeback moment for Mannie Fresh, proving that his sound and legacy could thrive well beyond the Cash Money era.
