One of sports’ biggest rivalries could be renewed. According to boxing insider Mike Coppinger. Coppinger revealed that boxing icons Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao could renew their rivalry inside the squared circle.
Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Eyeing Rematch
Coppinger said that a rematch between Pacquiao and Mayweather is being “seriously discussed” between the two camps. 10 years after their 2015 “fight of the century.”
“I am hearing from reliable sources that Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, yes, more than 10 years later, a rematch is being seriously discussed to take place next year on Netflix,” Coppinger said on Inside The Ring. “I think there’s a real possibility this is going to happen.”
A rematch between Mayweather and Pacquiao has been previously discussed. And with all of the buzz that surrounded their 2015 super fight, it is a bout that will surely draw the ire of Combat fans.
However, former boxing star Ricky Hatton warns fans that all that glitters isn’t gold. Both Pac-Man and Money Mayweather are far past their primes. So a fight between the two former prize fighters could be a disappointment to true boxing fans.
“The one thing as boxing fans is seeing our heroes come back and get hurt by giving it one more go. And getting knocked out and destroyed. But I’m all for the exhibitions. Because you can see your heroes one last time. To showcase their skills and not get hurt,” Hatton said back in 2024.
“There are a lot of things going on in boxing these days with YouTubers fighting UFC and UFC fighting boxers. But as long as people know that the exhibitions are glorified spars and showcase their skills one last time, you don’t have to worry about seeing your hero getting knocked out and hurt.”
