With NFL free agency just days away, we officially have the first major shakeup of the offseason. And it involves star wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
Patriots Set to Release Stefon Diggs
Multiple reports confirmed on Wednesday (March 4) that the New England Patriots have informed their standout receiver that he will be released. At the start of the league’s new year on March 11.
Diggs also appeared to confirm the news in a social media post on Wednesday. He thanked the organization for a great run that ended with a bitter loss in Super Bowl 60 last month.
“Thank you for a hell of a year. We’re family forever,” he wrote in an Instagram story on March 4.
Many of the New England faithful expressed their disappointment about Digg’s pending release.
“You don’t release a 1,000-yard receiver like Stefon Diggs unless you have a MASSIVE upgrade already in the works,” one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“We finally have a 1000-yard receiver, and we cut him,” another user added.
“Bro, he was so good for us. We’d better have an answer at WR,” a third user chimed in.
2025 was a season of redemption for Diggs. After suffering a torn ACL in 2024, he had one of the best seasons of his career. He racked up 85 receptions for 1013 yards and four touchdowns.
But for as good as Diggs was in the regular season, he left a lot to be desired in the NFL Playoffs. In four postseason games, Diggs had just 14 receptions for 110 yards and one touchdown.
With him now set to test the free agent market, it will be interesting to see which team picks him up.
