Rick Ross is set to drop his 12th studio album, Set in Stone, later this month. And although he hasn’t sold a single copy of the upcoming project, the rap star insisted that he is already reaping the benefits.

During a recent livestream, Ross claimed that he has already been paid for the album. Ahead of its release date. And for those wondering how that is possible, Ross says that it is just the product of a “changed” rap industry.

“I’m already paid before the album comes out… The industry has changed,” he said in a clip caught byHotNewHipHop. “I’ve sold records, n***a, for the last 20 years. You know what I do. Not just for myself, but the entire brand. Rozay paid. I pray y’all n***as get paid before the album comes out. Because when you put the album together, that’s the work.”

However, many users in the comments section felt that his comments were part of a bigger plan.

“In other words, ‘it’s not gonna sell,. So let me smoke screen everyone,” one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“So, in other words, when it comes out and does 10k first week sales, y’all can make fun of me, but I’m paid,” a second user chimed in.

Rozay Gives Insight on Forthcoming Album

However, sales don’t appear to be Ross’s main goal when it comes to Set in Stone. When discussing his 12th studio album, Rozay said that his priority was to step out of the box and “challenge” himself musically.

“I challenged myself musically. That’s what the Renaissance is about; it’s not getting to a point where you feel you’re at a ceiling,” he said to the Daily Mail, as caught by AllHipHop.

He also added:

“Not only should I put out a dope album, but it should be f**king challenging any body of work I ever released. And so that’s what the challenge to myself was. So, a lot of the records that I put on it sonically and just the way I feel, you know, what the game needed as my contribution…. I’m gonna be excited the day it’s released.”

Set in Stone is set to drop on July 17.
