Roxanne Shante was one of the first female emcees to gain notoriety on the mic. What made Shante different was she came to BATTLE. At such a young age Roxanne Shante hit the rap scene and was making a name for herself at a time where not many female emcees were picking up the mic.
The biopic was filmed back in 2016, and premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival , stars Shanté Adams as the New York City native and features roles from Nia Long and Mahershala Ali.
