Superstar singer Akon was arrested in DeKalb County, Georgia, last week, according to official jail records.
The 52-year-old artist, whose real name is Aliaune Thiam, was taken into custody by the Chamblee Police Department on November 7. Records show that the arrest was made in connection with a warrant issued out of Roswell, Georgia. Authorities have not yet disclosed details regarding the circumstances that led to the warrant.
Jail records confirm that Akon was booked and later released approximately six hours after his arrest.
Akon, a five-time Grammy nominee, first rose to fame in the early 2000s with his breakout hit “Locked Up,” followed by chart-topping singles such as “Lonely,” “I Wanna Love You,” and “Smack That.”
In addition to his music career, Akon has made headlines in recent years for his philanthropic efforts and entrepreneurial ventures across Africa, including his ambitious “Akon City” project in Senegal.
Further information regarding the arrest and the Roswell warrant is expected to be released as the investigation continues.
