Snoop Dogg became the subject of heavy criticism after his comments about the 2022 movie, Lightyear. The Disney/Pixar film, which is a spinoff of the Toy Story series, features a same-sex relationship. And Snoop was very critical of that context being in a children’s movie, which earned him heavy backlash from the LGBTQ+ community.
Snoop Dogg Expresses Remorse Over Controversial Comments
Snoop took to social media on Sunday (August 31) to further explain his comments.
“I was just caught off guard and had no answer for my grandsons,” he said in the comments section of a Hollywood Unlocked Instagram post. “All my gay friends [know] what’s up, they’ve been calling me with love. My bad for not knowing the answers. For a 6-year-old, teach me how to learn. I’m not perfect.”
During a recent episode of the It’s Giving podcast, the Death Row Records co-owner expressed how, after seeing Lightyear, he became “scared.” His fear derived from his grandchildren. Who had questions about the same-sex relationship depicted in the Disney/Pixar film. And that he didn’t want to run into a similar situation.
“They’re like, ‘She had a baby with another woman.’ Well, my grandson, in the middle of the movie, is like, ‘Papa Snoop? How can she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!” he explained during the podcast.
Snoop also talked about his uncertainty when it comes to how to answer those types of questions. Which ultimately contributes to his fearfulness.
“It f****d me up,” Snoop added. “I’m like, scared to go to the movies. Y’all throwing me in the middle of s**t that I don’t have an answer for,” he added. “So it threw me for a loop. I’m like, ‘What part of the movie was this?’ These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”
