The Compton rapper appears on three tracks from the album—“GOOD CREDIT,” “MOJO JOJO,” and “BACKD00R.” However, Kanye West did not hold back when sharing his initial thoughts on the project, particularly regarding Kendrick Lamar’s contributions.
“I DON’T LIKE KENDRICK LAMAR’S MUSIC,” Ye stated bluntly on X. “HE RAPS VERY GOOD, BUT I DIDN’T NEED TO HEAR HIM ON A CARTI ALBUM.”
His comments quickly sparked a response from Lamar’s former label boss, TDE’s Terrence “Punch” Henderson, who took to social media to express his thoughts.
“Aye… What’s up with this Kanye West n-gga??” Punch wrote.
Freddie Gibbs soon chimed in with laughing emojis, prompting Punch to double down on his question.
“Freddie, what’s wrong with this n-gga, man?” he asked again.
Kanye West Sends Mixed Messages Amid Kendrick-Drake Beef
This isn’t the first time Kanye has been critical of Kendrick in recent weeks. Leading up to Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime Show performance, Ye suggested that the rapper was being “propped up” by an industry that selectively supports Black entertainers.
As the week progressed, Kanye continued stirring the pot, even dropping a new song on the day of the Super Bowl.
Additionally, the Yeezy founder made a string of conflicting statements about both Kendrick Lamar and Drake last month, leaving fans puzzled. Initially, he praised Lamar’s Super Bowl performance and acknowledged his victory over Drake in their viral lyrical battle, saying, “He took down my nemesis for me.”
Yet, just days later, Ye showered Drake with compliments, hailing his new album with PartyNextDoor, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U. “Gimme a hug is incredible,” he wrote. “Sheeeeeeesh.”
Earlier this month, Kanye took things even further, declaring that he wants Drake to speak at his funeral.
