Teyana Hits Back at Critics Over Reaction to Losing Oscar
Teyana Taylor’s reaction to not winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress sparked a lot of reactions on social media. Most of them are negative. The actress took time to address those critics on social media.
“The world holds so much misery that miserable hearts forget the face of happiness,” she said in the post. “They grow comfortable being sore losers, so when they see real sportsmanship, it unsettles them! like holy water touching a demon. Because clapping for someone else’s victory requires something many people never learned…how to win with grace & pure joy, and how to lose with grace, chin up & dignity.”

The 2026 Oscar Awards were a huge night for the Teyana Taylor fan club. The Harlem native was a first-time Academy Award nominee. Her role as Perfidia Beverly Hills in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another earned her a best supporting actress nomination.
Many people thought that Teyana had a chance to win the award. Especially after taking home the Golden Globe Award for the same category earlier this year. But unfortunately, Taylor didn’t take home the award. The award went to actress Amy Madigan for he role in Weapons.
Teyana had a surprising reaction to her loss. She wasn’t stone-faced at all. Instead, she stood up and boastfully applauded Madigan’s win. But some fans questioned if something was “off” with the actress. Especially after having a heated confrontation with a security guard on the red carpet before the awards show. And another clip of her playfully choking film director Paul Thomas Anderson as he accepted the Academy Award for Best Picture went viral.
However, it seems as if Teyana was just happy for two of her fellow industry cohorts.
