Keegan-Michael Key and his wife Elle are reportedly firing back at podcaster Akilah Hughes. On Thursday (May 7th), TMZ reported that several sources told them the Keys are aware of Hughes’ allegations and they’ve spoken on the matter to their team.
What Did Keegan-Michael Key & His Wife Allegedly Say?
Issues began when podcaster Akilah Hughes alleged that Keegan-Michael Key’s wife got her show canned.
According to Hughes, who uses the codenames “banana and lock” to reference that she’s talking about a prolific comedy duo in the 2010s, Key was allegedly supposed to serve as a producer on her show, which she sold to a major network. However, out of nowhere, she claims his wife, Elle Key, also became a producer. She then alleges that the wife of a close friend of Key’s (allegedly Jordan Peele), warned Hughes about working with her. Jordan Peele is married to Chelsea Peretti. Hughes then claims that Elle Key’s ideas for the show were rejected in meeting rooms, leading her to threaten to sue the network. The show was dropped, put into development hell, and then canceled due to the writer’s strike.
Now, according to TMZ, the Keys have heard Hughes’ claims and have allegedly responded to close confidants about it. TMZ says multiple sources connected to the Keys claim the duo called Hughes’ allegations “outlandish and fabricated nonsense.”
So far, Hughes has not responded to TMZ’s report.

What’s Going On With Jordan Peele & Keegan-Michael Key?
In a 2024 interview with People Magazine, Key admitted that he and Peele aren’t as close as they once were.
“We don’t see each other that often anymore, which is, to me, a tragedy,” Key said.
In 2026, during an interview with TMZ, Key expressed a desire to make new Key & Peele sketches. Key & Peele have not collaborated with each other since 2022.
Hughes’ claims are considered hearsay and neither Keegan-Michael Key or Elle Key have addressed the allegations publicly.
