Hip-Hop’s most polarizing figure of all-time Tupac Shakur will be inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Class of 2017. With an incredibly intriguing biopic entitled “All Eyez On Me” coming sometime in 2017 this honor couldn’t be more on time. Unfortunately Tupac’s mother Afeni Shakur who passed away in May of 2016 will not live to see either honor. Tupac and Afeni’s hard works, efforts, and impact have led up to Tupac’s iconic stature and this induction will be a special occasion. Shakur has become the first solo Hip-Hop artist inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame and the sixth Hip-Hop act inducted overall. Only Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, RUN-DMC, The Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, & N.W.A have been given the honor thus far.
Many feel that artist that have come before Tupac such as LL Cool, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, and others are being skipped over with Tupac’s induction. It’s also note worthy that Janet Jackson was nominated this year for The Hall and didn’t make it in. This brings about a few questions. Will the committee revisit an artist like LL Cool J that released his debut album in 1985 ( six years before Tupac debuted)? Will the committee just move forward from here and look to artist like Nas, Biggie, & Outkast to induct? We still haven’t seen Ice Cube, Dr Dre, & Snoop Dogg inducted as solo artist. And you have to imagine that in a couple of years The Wu-Tang Clan will get their honor. Hopefully LL Cool J doesn’t totally get forgotten for his incredible accomplishments in the world of music. But right now a congratulations is in order for Tupac Shakur.
