Conway’s “Make Them Pay” freestyle has sent shockwaves through the Griselda fanbase. However, Westside Gunn is trying to calm the rumors, making a major step to emphasize who’s aligned with him.
What Did Westside Gunn Do?
Over the weekend, Gunn posted on his X account, revealing he brought out Benny The Butcher for his Manchester show. Benny then commented on the post when a fan brought up the rumored meeting with JAY-Z where allegedly HOV suggested Gunn give Benny and Conway part ownership.
“Who said I was tryna get percentage??? The internet did and u ate it up lol,” Benny posted.
The response refers to the rumor from podcast host Mal, where he said that Jay-Z had dinner with the core Griselda members: Westside Gunn, Benny Da Butcher, and Conway The Machine. During that meeting, Mal says that Jay-Z suggested that Gunn give 10% of the company to Conway and Benny. But Gunn disagreed which he believes is the reason for the delay in music.
Gunn responded to the clip refuting the accusation.
“Everybody wanna go viral so bad shit disgusting,” he said in response to Mal’s comments.

How Did This Controversy Start?
However, Conway’s “Make Them Pay” freestyle suggests Gunn may not be telling the truth.
““Dinner with HOV, he said, dawg give ya brother a piece. I saw it in his eyes right then, he doesn’t want me to eat,” he raps.
Since the freestyle, Conway hasn’t clarified his bars, nor dispelled the rumors. Recently, he announced a new project with DJ Whoo Kid, I Heard You Paint Houses, which is expected to drop this summer. However, Conway says there’s a way you can hear it sooner.

Just a couple weeks ago, Conway said new Griselda music was on the way, although with the freestyle, that sentiment could have changed.
““[Music] is already in motion,” Conway The Machine said. “It’s gon happen. We’re doing another tape. I spoke with Benny the other day. We probably gonna do something…but we cooking. It’s never no beefin, we family.”
Conway didn’t offer much else after that, though he said he didn’t want to give the blogs an exclusive, instead, choosing to announce the news on his show.
Benny has also said new Griselda music is coming.
