In a world where it seems to be a 20 v 1 against Drake, with rappers such as Kendrick Lamar, Rick Ross, ASAP Rocky, Ye, and others aiming at the ‘6 God’, could the biggest feud in Hip Hop be in the hands of an R&B singer? The years-old feud between Chris Brown and Migos rapper Quavo seems to have ignited the discussion. What began with rumored tension over Chris Brown’s ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran has escalated into a full-blown battle.
The roots of the beef go back to 2017 when Karrueche Tran, who dated Brown from 2011 to 2015, was seeing Quavo. While their were some inital denials, the whispers (and the confirmation) planted a seed of discord.
The recent escalation began with Chris Brown’s song “Freak,” featuring Lil Wayne, Joyner Lucas, and Tee Grizzley. Brown’s lyrics seemingly reference the old rumors and tensions:
“Okay, now f–king my old b—hes ain’t gon’ make us equal,” Chris rapped in his verse.
Quavo fired back with his own diss track, “Tender,” which took aim at Brown’s career and personal life.
Chris Brown Goes Nuclear with “Weakest Link”
Brown’s response, “Weakest Link,” takes the gloves off entirely. Breezy throws barbs at Quavo’s rapping ability, and Quavo’s relevance, and even includes controversial references to the recent death of Migos member Takeoff rapping “R.I.P. Takeoff, he the only real one that got true respect/Crazy how when he died, everybody wished it was you instead (Oh s**t, brrah),” adding, “You trippin’, Chris, don’t say that, don’t lose your head (Damn). CB’s delivery, tone, and harsh lyrics have many fans calling it one of the most brutal diss tracks in recent memory amid the war of words between Drake and his foes.
In short order, the Migos member fired back with his song ‘Over Hoes and Bitches’. Quavo’s response, “Over Hoes & B*tches,” features previously unreleased vocals from Takeoff in the chorus, seemingly a direct response to Brown’s controversial lyric. Takeoff criticizes Brown’s authenticity.
He criticizes Brown for initiating a feud over a personal issue, rapping, “Every time you see me, keep that energy…can’t believe I gotta beat you ’bout some women beef.”
Quavo labels Brown a “Crackhead Michael Jackson” and alludes to the singer’s reported drug use and mental health challenges.
Veterans to beef and diss tracks 50 Cent and Cam’ron weighed in on the fued with both claiming Breezy as the winner of round 1.
