Death Row Records is broadening its musical range with the upcoming release of a gospel album. Titled Altar Call and executive produced by Snoop Dogg, the project serves as a spiritual successor to his 2018 album Bible of Love and is a heartfelt tribute to his late mother, Beverly Tate.
Snoop made the announcement on Instagram on Monday (April 14), revealing that the album will drop on April 27—his mother’s birthday.
In a statement originally shared with Okayplayer, Snoop reflected, “My mother’s spirit will always be a part of me. This album embodies the values she passed on—using my voice and platform to promote love and healing. It’s another chapter from the Bible of Love.”
Described as a moving expression of faith, introspection, and togetherness, Altar Call aims to deliver a message of grace for everyone, regardless of their life journey.
The 21-track album features a diverse lineup, including Jamie Foxx covering Bill Withers’ “Grandma’s Hands,” along with contributions from Charlie Bereal, Jane Handcock, Jazze Pha, October London, Mali Music, and Robert Glasper. The album also marks the debut of the Death Row Mass Choir.
Known for experimenting with different styles, Snoop has recently stepped into the country scene as well. He collaborated with four-time ACM Awards nominee ERNEST on the single “Gettin’ Gone.”
According to PEOPLE, the collaboration came together organically the night before a Jelly Roll concert. ERNEST recalled, “I told him I write and produce music, then played him a song I had just finished. He was like, ‘This is fire. I need your number.’”
