Snoop Dogg has come under fire for his recent comments about the 2022 film Lightyear.
The movie, which is a spinoff of Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story, brings the topic of same-sex couples to the forefront. It features two mothers who have a baby together. Snoop was unaware that this would be a featured topic in the movie. And it led to his grandson asking questions about how it was possible for two women to procreate together.
Snoop Dogg Says He’s “Scared” To Take Grandkids to Movie Theater
During a recent episode of the It’s Giving podcast, the former rap star expressed how, after seeing Lightyear, he became “scared” to take his grandchildren to the movie. Because he was unsure if he would run into a similar situation.
“They’re like, ‘She had a baby with another woman.’ Well, my grandson, in the middle of the movie, is like, ‘Papa Snoop? How can she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!” he explained during the podcast.
Snoop also added that his fear is derived from his not knowing how to answer those types of questions from his grandchildren.
“It f****d me up,” Snoop said. “I’m like, scared to go to the movies. Y’all throwing me in the middle of s**t that I don’t have an answer for,” he added. “It threw me for a loop. I’m like, ‘What part of the movie was this?’ These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”

In the aftermath of the interview, fans on social media had mixed responses.
“Imagine being Snoop Dogg, the face of weed and murder rap, but scared of representation in a kids movie,” one person said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Maybe you should just stop your kid from watching movies till they are old enough to understand these things,” another user said.
“Choosing what content is safe for your family isn’t homophobia. Snoop Dogg’s just protecting his grandson,” another fan said.
Snoop Dogg has yet to respond to the backlash.
