50 Cent is considered a legend in the rap game. He has sold more than 30 million records throughout his career. The Southside legend catapulted himself to superstardom following the release of his 2003 album Get Rich or Die Tryin’, which was released under Eminem and Dr. Dre’s Shady Aftermath Label.

But what you may not know is how 50 Cent ended up signing to Eminem’s label. According to rap artist Juvenile, he was the person responsible for 50 and Em going into business together.

During a recent interview with Nyla Symone, the famed Hot Boys member recalled how it all went down.

“I got 50 Cent his record deal with Eminem,” Juvenile said. “Ask 50, he’ll tell you, yeah, Juve was the one. 50 couldn’t really go to the studios at the time, and I was one of the first cats with a studio bus, so I let him record on my bus, him, [Tony] Yayo, and [Lloyd] Banks.”

Juvie also noted how Em and Fif were making similar music at the time. Music that targeted other artists in the industry. And with their provocative style of music, it was a match made in heaven.

“When I went over there with Sha Money, my first thing was telling him the type of music Em is doing and the type of music 50 is doing with the diss thing, it’s going to work if he goes with him. And it worked,” Juvenile added.

50 would go on to launch his debut album, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, under the Shady Aftermath label. The project sold 872,000 copies in its first week after its release in 2003. The album also debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. As of February 2025, the project has sold over 12 million units worldwide.

It is widely regarded as one of the best rap albums of all time.
