Former NFL star wide receiver Antonio Brown is back in the news. And as per usual, it is not for a good reason.

Antonio Brown Arrested on Attempted Murder Charge

On Thursday authorities announced that Brown was arrested for attempted murder. The former Tampa Bay Buccaneer was extradited by United States Marshals and taken to New Jersey from Dubai. Where he had been staying for the last several months.

Brown’s arrest stems from a May 2025 shooting that occurred after a boxing match in Miami.

In a copy of the arrest warrant obtained by ESPN, Brown is accused of taking a handgun from a security staffer at the boxing event. And firing two shots at an individual he had a confrontation with earlier that evening.

Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, the man whom Brown shot at, told police that one of the shots fired by brown grazed his neck.

However, Brown insisted that firing the bullets was an act of self-defense.

“I was jumped by multiple individuals. Who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me,” he wrote on his X account in May (Via ESPN). “Contrary to some video circulating, the Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED. I will be talking to my legal counsel and attorneys about pressing charges on the individuals who jumped me.”

NFL Star’s Issues Led to Early Exit From The League

Brown had his fair share of issues during his time in the NFL. Brown had a fast start to his career. Snagging 69 receptions for 1,108 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns in just his second NFL season. However, off-the-field issues soured his relationship with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was ultimately traded to the Oakland Raiders in 2019 along with a brand new $50 million contract. However, that relationship never came to fruition. Once again, multiple off-the-field issues that summer ended his relationship with the Raiders. He never played a single down for the franchise.

The final act for Brown came during his time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In a game against the New York Jets, Brown began to have a dispute on the sideline with an assistant coach. However, instead of handling it maturely, Brown made a spectacle of himself. Stripping out of his helmet, jersey, and shoulder pads. He then ran off the sideline, onto the field, and into the locker room as he pumped up the crowd at MetLife Stadium. It is still one of the most cringeworthy spectacles that the sports world has ever seen.

If Brown is convicted, he faces a maximum 15-year prison sentence and up to a $10,000 fine.
