Christopher “Kid” Reid, one half of the legendary hip-hop duo Kid ’n Play, has revealed that he underwent a heart transplant in 2025 after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure.
Reid shared that the warning signs crept up gradually, including persistent fatigue, shortness of breath, and sleeping more than usual. Like many, he initially brushed off the symptoms as part of aging and the wear and tear of life on the road. “I think sometimes you chalk it up to, ‘I’m getting older,’” Reid explained.
Speaking candidly, the 60-year-old artist emphasized how common it is for people—especially within communities of color—to avoid seeking medical care. He pointed to lack of insurance, fear of bad news, and the daily grind of survival as reasons many ignore their health until it’s too late.
“A lot of people are walking around with heart disease because they don’t go to the doctor,” Reid said, urging fans and their loved ones to prioritize regular checkups. He hopes his story serves as a wake-up call, stressing that delaying care can have life-altering consequences.
Reid shared his experience in an interview with Good Morning America, using his platform to raise awareness and encourage proactive health care, calling the transplant a life-saving second chance.
