The location of their bout is historically significant. The Congo was where “The Rumble in the Jungle” took place on October 30, 1974. Muhammad Ali knocked out George Foreman to reclaim the heavyweight title at Kinshasa’s Tata Raphaël Stadium. After being stripped of the title in 1967.
There have been initial concerns about the boxing match. Particularly after seeing Mike Tyson’s last exhibition fight against Jake Paul in November 2024.
Tyson lost that match decisively. At times, the 59-year-old looks completely unmatched, barely able to move or come close to affecting the 27-year-old Paul. But he appears to be a lot more confident about fighting 48-year-old Mayweather.
“I still can’t believe Floyd wants to really do this,” he said after announcing the fight. “It’s going to be detrimental to his health. But he wants to do it, so it’s signed, and it’s happening!”
Iron Mike also insisted that the fight is going to be “incredible” and expects it to “break all the records.”
There is still no word on a venue for the upcoming bout. So, tickets have still not gone on sale for the event. But with the match a little more than two months away, expect them to go on sale soon. Check back for further updates.
