J. Cole, the catalyst of the 2024 rap feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, recently revealed some interesting details about the feud between the two rap stars.
Cole Says Kendrick Was on the Initial Version of His Album
The rap star recently sat down for a one-on-one with Cam’ron on an episode of his podcast, Talk With Flee. During their discussion, Cole revealed his initial reaction to Kendrick Lamar’s verse on Like That. A track where he aims at him and Drake.
Cole says that upon first hearing the track, he was appreciative of Kendrick’s verse.
“My first reaction [to Like That] was, ‘That sh*t is hard.’ It was undeniable. The beat was crazy, the song was fire, he went crazy, this was tough,” he said (via HipHopAllDay/X).
However, Cole goes on to reveal that even though he appreciated the track, it could not have come at a worse time, given his affiliation with both rappers. Cole had just come off tour with Drake, and Kendrick Lamar was set to be featured on two tracks on the original version of The Fall Off, which was slated to be released later that year.
“My second reaction was basically, ‘not now, bruh, this is inconvenient for me,” he continued. “Right at that time, I had just gotten off tour with Drake. I had Might Delete Later in the chamber, and then I had ‘The Fall-Off’ finished. It’s like, yo, he [Kendrick] was on two joints.”

As for his current relationship with both artists? Cole still isn’t picking a side. However, he did reveal that he had held conversations with both artists in the aftermath of their feud.
“I’m in the same place. You know, like, I genuinely love these n****s. I ain’t gonna act like we’ve been communicating and talking. I’ve had conversations with them post-everything, you know what I mean? Like after the fact. But it’s not like it’s a lot,” he said (via Kurrrco/X).
At the time of writing, neither Kendrick nor J. Cole has responded to J. Cole’s recent comments.
