Earlier this month, singer D4VD (born David Anthony Burke) was arrested in connection with the murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas. After being arraigned, he will be held without bail until his trial begins.
D4VD was remanded to Los Angeles County Men’s Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles, California. And per a Wednesday (April 22) report from TMZ, the conditions he is facing are harsh.
D4VD’s Harsh Prison Conditions Exposed
According to the outlet, Burke is being held in a segregated single cell for obvious safety reasons. He has to be escorted from his cell to the shower. To make matters even worse, he is only allowed to bathe every other day. His allotted phone calls are on the same schedule. And he currently is not allowed to have visitors.
The singer will spend the majority of his time in his segregated cell. With no access to a television. In addition, he only received three hours of recreation time with fresh air per week. And of course, they will not be allowed to have contact with other inmates during recreation. Despite earning millions from his music career, the singer reportedly has no money on his books right now.
The outlet also spoke with a law enforcement source who described the facility as “dirty,” “smelly,” and “wild.”
To bring things up to speed, D4VD is being charged with first-degree murder in connection with Rivas’ death. The teen’s dismembered body was found in a Tesla registered to Burked. The luxury vehicle was abandoned in the Hollywood Hills before being towed to a nearby impound lot. After receiving complaints of a foul odor coming from the car, Rivas’ body was found.
Investigators believe that Burke was romantically involved with the D4VD, and the singer killed her to preserve his lucrative music career.
In a press conference following Burke’s arrest, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman vowed to get justice for Rivas and her family.
“This horrific and gruesome murder committed by the charged sexual predator is shocking and appalling. To Celeste’s loved ones, we will get the justice you seek and deserve,” he said.
If convicted, D4VD could potentially face the death penalty.
