JPEGMAFIA has been very outspoken lately stemming from his recent interview with Pigeons & Planes. Speaking on Kanye West, Peggy made his stance clear.
What Did JPEGMAFIA Say About Kanye West?
Peggy didn’t hold back with his thoughts on Ye’s recent UK travel ban.
“if Ye looked like Justin Bieber, none of this would be happening,” JPEGMAFIA said. I think that there’s no benefit of the doubt for black men. And I think that’s what you’re seeing with Ye. Ye obviously has mental problems. He’s obviously said things that hurt a lot of people. He said slavery was a choice before. He said like numerous offensive things before. All to me in a state of mental illness. So rather than giving grace to someone for their problems, we demonize them. I think that there’s no grace for black men.
He continued by saying forgiveness and outrage have become equally selective, especially when it comes to race.
“I personally think if Ye was a white guy, we wouldn’t even be having this conversation,” JPEGMAFIA said. “He could build a bomb and nobody would give a f***. Because he’s a grown black man, there’s an extra, ‘Nah, we can’t let you do this,’ attached to it. As far as his actual statements and stuff like that, I don’t agree with none of that. But to me, it’s a guy having a mental breakdown.”
He finished his thought saying the outrage isn’t going to affect West’s musical legacy. “People are always gonna love Ye regardless of what people want,” JPEGMAFIA said. “They want him to be canceled. They want this. People will always love Ye because he’s made a dent in culture. If you talk about music from the 21st century, how can you not mention this man? He’s in the history books.
Peggy also compared West’s transgressions to Elvis Presley, who married a 14 year old girl, saying if people choose to have grace for Elvis, then he does for Ye.
What’s Going On With Peggy’s Feud With Earl Sweatshirt?
Peggy and Earl Sweatshirt have not seen eye to eye for a few years now, but the beef reached a boiling point last week. Talking to P&P, Peggy called out rappers for pretending to try and be cool and not wanting to experiment. He previously mentioned Earl’s name in an interview with Billboard saying he made the same music over and over again.
Earl tapped into his Odd Future days, clapping back with jokes.
“Nobody copies cuh because his music is gnarled rough and ugly (derogatory),” Sweatshirt said. “Lmao leave me alone pls I make music with my friends that I have (derogatory).”
In a now deleted comment, Peggy clapped back.
“1st off n**** your career is gnarled and rough, you the first n**** since Joe Budden to go back underground literally,” Peggy commented. “2nd stop saying ‘cuh’ your 32 and you went to boarding school. 3rd neither you nor your friends would ever say none of this to my face. But thank you for the promo little guy.”
Sweatshirt immediately retorted, clowning Peggy for his style.
“You know what bro my fault I misspoke,” Sweatshirt replied. “Bro is the king of making crunchy ass music and wearing muay thai shorts, super excited for the album brother (positive) seems like its gonna be really experimental. I fw the new leather vibe 2 twin s*** hard.”
Earl continued his response, trolling on his Instagram story.
“Y’all make sure y’all go stream that Experimental Rap Songs,” Sweatshirt posted. “Gotta give credit where its due bro learned great rollout technique from King Troll himself and the US armed forces. Happy to support another black mans hard work. You go glen coco.”
Peggy is currently promoting a new album called Experimental Rap, which drops soon.
