Lud Foe officially announced he’s stepping away from rap music, saying he’s focused on healing and no longer wants to promote the violent lifestyle that shaped his career.
In a raw video making rounds online, the 29-year-old Chicago drill artist says personal growth changed everything for him — and he can’t go back to rapping about his old life.
“As you grow and you heal, your mindset change… The stuff I used to rap about, I couldn’t rap about no more,” he explained, adding that he doesn’t want to keep “feeding bs to the youth.”
Lud Foe also hinted at pushback from people in his old circle, saying some tried to pull him back into his past and weren’t supportive of his growth.
Lud Foe came up in the mid-2010s with drill anthems like “Cuttin Up” and projects including No Hooks. A serious 2017 car crash forced him into a long rest, but now he says he’s fully choosing a different path.
For many fans, it’s the end of an era for one of Chicago drill’s most recognizable voices. But looking at the exit plan for most in the industry, this could be tucked away as a good business decision.
