Lupe Fiasco has lit up the internet. The accomplished rapper made a startling confession, considering the competitive nature of Hip Hop.

What Did Lupe Fiasco Say?

Lupe Fiasco apparently had beef with some guy named Tea Koala for saying things about him. Instead of going back and forth on social media. Lupe decided to hash things out with Tea Koala on his stream, which lasted over three and a half hours.

While they roast each other and debate for hours. At a certain point through the very long squabble, Lupe, who has regularly mentioned Kendrick Lamar in passing, dropped a shocking admission.

“He’s a better artist than me, he makes better albums, he has a better team, he has a better beat selection, he has better production.” Lupe says. “When it comes down to lyricism, no, everything else, for sure.”

Lupe continued.

He has more personal stories, better narratives, I don’t want to share my feelings with n**** like you,” he says. “Why the f*** would I share my personal stories with n**** who gonna talk crazy about you? I’ve said these things for years.”

While Lupe contends he’s a better writer than Kendrick, he already predicted clippers would take him out of context. Earlier in the stream, he said that the stuff he says regarding Kendrick will make the clips, before clarifying his statements.

He also contends that there’s hundreds of rappers better than Kendrick.

The Lupe & Kendrick Lamar Story

Lupe began talking about Kendrick awhile ago. At first, it was all love, as Kendrick had Lupe come out as a special guest during a 2012 performance at Chicago’s Congress Theater. He then proclaimed Kendrick as the next big thing.

But in 2014, during an interview with Hot 97, he accused Peter Rosenberg of overhyping him and said he isn’t the best. While he gave TDE and Kendrick praise, he asserted that he thought Logic and King Los were better lyricists.

Lamar responded to those comments when speaking to Seattle radio station Kube 93 FM.

“Everybody entitled to their own opinion, I just continue to do what I do,” he said. “Everybody feels they own aspects of it and how they look at different artists, but I just continue to do what I do.”

Then in 2018, he went on a twitter tirade, saying he didn’t think Kendrick belonged in top lyricist conversations.

“K. Dot is not a top tier lyricist to me and my standards when it comes to punchlines and bars,” Lupe tweeted. “His overall lyrics are good, his stories phenomenal, but punchline entendre lyrically I don’t see it. The only issue that the world thinks I have with K. Dot and I actually do is that I think his ‘Control’ verse was wack and super overhyped to be a verse claiming you are the best rapper. It was very weird. I was told it was just bait, but still.”

Infamously, Kendrick did not mention Lupe’s name in his control verse. He instead addressed J. Cole, Wale, Pusha T, Meek Mill, Asap Rocky, Drake, Big Sean, Jay Electronica, Tyler, The Creator, Big K.R.I.T., and the late Mac Miller. Despite this, Lupe dropped a response track “SLR 2.” While he doesn’t address Kendrick by name, it’s pretty clear from the track who he’s talking about, including when he raps he isn’t Nas or JAY-Z.

Since then, Kendrick Lamar has not addressed Lupe, instead focusing on Drake.
