Jay-Z is preparing to perform three shows at Yankee Stadium July 10-12. And after he shut down the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia earlier this summer, fans are anxious to see what he has in store when he rolls through his hometown. During a recent episode of Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, media personality Charlamagne The God had a suggestion.
Charlamagne: Jay-Z Should Perform 2026 Version of ‘Takeover’
During a recent episode of the program, Charlamagne suggested that Jay-Z perform an updated version of his iconic 2001 song, The Takeover. The song where he targets several of his opps. Including Nas and New York rap duo Mobb Deep.
“He’s not going to be going at Mobb Deep or Nas,” he said in a clip shared by nonickinoclout on X. “God bless the dead, rest in peace, Prodigy. Like so, there’s a way he could flip that… he’s either going to skip it or he could do an updated 2026 version of ‘Takeover.’”
Charlamagne’s comments sparked a major debate on social media.
“Or he could just release a new album and see how that performs. Why are we trying to sell nostalgia?” one person wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Running back a diss record because your first one didn’t land is pathetic,” a second user chimed in.
“That freestyle clearly didn’t do what it was supposed to do,” a third user chimed in.
Jay-Z did something similar to a 2026 version of the takeover. When he debuted a new freestyle at the Roots Picnic in May. He appeared to target several of his opps including Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Dame Dash. It will be interesting to see if he does something similar at his Yankee Stadium shows.
