T-Pain has explained why he decided to sell his music catalog last year in a deal reportedly worth $100 million.
During a July 25 Twitch stream, the singer said streaming has caused the value of artists’ music to decline without creators having control over the process. The deal reportedly included his publishing catalog and select master-recording rights.
For T-Pain, accepting the payout was about gaining control of his financial future and creating long-term security for his family.
“I’m not leaving my kids’ future in the hands of the music industry at all,” he said. “I know exactly how much I would need to live out the rest of my life.”
