We wish we had better news about Menace 2 Society’s Samuel Monroe Jr., but the recent report by AllHipHop is grim.
Monroe landed on life support in April, after battling meningitis for over a year. His wife, Shawna Stewart explained how he contracted the disease in a statement to Complex.
“Around 18 months ago, Samuel was in Las Vegas filming, and unfortunately, that is where he contracted meningitis,” Stewart told Complex. “He went to several different hospitals, where his condition was repeatedly misdiagnosed and because of this negligence, the meningitis went untreated for eight months.”
Stewart continues, saying by the time it was properly diagnosed that the infection had spread to his brain.

A Difficult Decision
Sadly things haven’t improved. Reportedly, Monroe Jr.’s brain has swelled further and it’s resulting in seizures. Three surgeries later, and he hasn’t improved. His left lung has partially collapsed.
According to Stewart, doctors are saying that if further brain scans don’t show improvement, he may be left in a vegetative state, leading to a grim decision regarding his status on life support.
The family has set up a GoFundMe that’s only reached 18% of its goal. You can donate here, if you wish.
