In the early 2020s, Nas returned to the mic after years away, delivering a series of mixtapes and albums that further bolstered his bid for the Hip Hop Mount Rushmore.
Nas and Hit Boy’s King’s Disease and Magic series were critically acclaimed exercises in lyricism and maturity, revealing the legendary MC still had it.
In 2025, he linked with DJ Premier for Light Years, which received mixed reviews. Clearly, the best version of Nas since the early 00s was his work with Hit Boy, at least according to fan reception.
However, during an interview with Elliott Wilson, Hit Boy revealed he hasn’t spoken to Nas since the final Magic tape dropped in 2023.
“We did alot of great work but I don’t see us working again. There’s alot of reasons but it’s something I don’t wanna dig too deep in because it’s pretty deep. But, respect to what we accomplished in 3 years.
The New York rapper has not commented on a potential falling out with Hit Boy.

Legends of the game have reunited for a new music video to their hit song “Run It Back.” Nas and De La Soul link up for a mind bending music video to keep the success of De La’s album Cabin in the Sky going.
The music video sees De La opening where they started in Amityville, Long Island, before making its way to Queens to connect with the New York legend. Posdnuos, Maseo and Nas ride away from the cops as the video turns a ride through New York into a vivid, imaginative trip through Hip Hop.
The album includes features from Nas, Q-Tip, Black Thought, Common, Killer Mike, Slick Rick, Bilal, Yummy Bingham, and more. Pete Rock, DJ Premier, and other legends help with production duties on the critically-acclaimed album.
The music video comes as De La and Nas join the Roots on a legendary limited tour to close out the summer.
