Freddie Gibbs and Trae Tha Truth are bringing national attention to the ongoing crisis in Gary, Indiana, after severe storms caused widespread damage and left many residents without power.
Gibbs, who was born and raised in Gary, recently spoke with MS NOW about the conditions in his hometown. The rapper said the predominantly Black city has historically been overlooked and expressed frustration that it has taken a disaster of this magnitude for Gary to receive national attention.
Meanwhile, Trae Tha Truth has taken a hands-on approach to helping the community through his Relief Gang organization. Trae and his team have been distributing food, cleaning supplies and other essentials to residents affected by the storm.
Relief Gang has also been helping remove fallen trees from homes and streets as families work to recover and rebuild.
Together, Gibbs and Trae are using their platforms to highlight the needs of Gary residents while calling attention to a community still dealing with the aftermath of the devastating storms.
