New Orleans hip-hop is mourning the loss of rapper Damon “Wacko” Grison, best known as a member of UTP alongside Juvenile and Skip.
Wacko helped co-write the group’s 2004 hit “Nolia Clap,” which reached No. 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of the records closely associated with that era of New Orleans rap.
Mia X remembered Wacko as a gifted artist with incredible wordplay, a unique cadence and a passion that came through in his music. She also revealed that he had been working on some special new music before his passing.
At this time, Wacko’s cause of death has not been publicly confirmed.
Rest in peace to Wacko. 🕊️🙏🏾 Our condolences go out to his family, friends and everyone who loved him.
