In a complaint filed October 15 in New York federal court, MMMG named Cordae, EMPIRE Distribution, Apeshit and Mass Appeal Records as defendants. The company alleges its April 2018 agreement with the rapper remains active and that the new recordings were not authorized.
MMMG is seeking at least $25 million across its claims, including allegations involving breach of contract, copyright infringement tied to lead single “A Good Day,” and the labels’ involvement in the alleged breach. The company also claims it has not received its contractual share of certain revenues.
The lawsuit requests an injunction blocking the album and related recordings, potentially threatening its planned October 23 release. The allegations have not been established in court.
