Historically, booking concerts has not been a difficult task for Ye (formerly known as Kanye West). But he has faced severe backlash over the antisemitic comments that he made during a series of social media rants last year.
Spokesperson Responds to Mayor’s Request to Cancel Ye’s San Antonio Concert
Ye’s next performance is scheduled to take place at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, on Independence Day. However, the City’s Mayor, Gina Ortiz, called for the concert’s cancellation given the rap star’s past remarks.
Ortiz’s stance has sparked conversation around the San Antonio community. About whether the rapper should be allowed to perform at a city-owned venue.
In a post shared by Good Morning San Antonio’s RJ Marquez, a spokesperson for the city said that the Alamodome reviews all events using the same criteria. And for now, it appears that the show is scheduled to go on.
“The Alamodome staff reviews all events — whether Paul McCartney, Disney on Ice, Monster Jam, or Ye — using the same factors. Including public demand, expected economic impact, facility revenue, hotel bookings, and the goal of bringing a wide range of events to San Antonio,” the statement reads.
The spokesperson doubled down. Noting that West’s upcoming performance is expected to bring in more than 60,000 people. And said that as of Monday, over 50,000 tickets had been sold.

If the city does make the decision to cancel Ye’s performance, it won’t be the first instance.
Ye was set to headline Wireless Festival in the United Kingdom this July. However, the U.K. Government blocked West from entering the country. Instead of simply replacing Ye as the headline, Wireless Festival opted to cancel the show altogether.
Following his being banned from obtaining a UK Visa, the French Government began to explore blocking him from entering the country for an upcoming show in Marseille. But instead of waiting for them to drop the hammer, he just postponed the show until a later date.
He was also scheduled to perform at Silesian Stadium in Chorzów, Poland, on June 19. But the stadium cancelled the show altogether.
