Hip-Hop icon Diddy is facing a federal lawsuit in New York City filed by his former girlfriend, Casandra Ventura. Ventura, an R&B singer known by the stage name Cassie, alleges that she endured rape and years of physical and other abuse during her relationship with Combs.
In a statement to CNN, Ventura expressed her decision to break her silence, stating, “After years in silence and darkness, I am finally ready to tell my story, and to speak up on behalf of myself and for the benefit of other women who face violence and abuse in their relationships.” She highlighted the approaching expiration of New York’s Adult Survivors Act as a motivation to share her traumatic experiences.
Combs, popularly known as Puff Daddy and Diddy, vehemently denies the allegations. Ben Brafman, Combs’ attorney, countered the accusations, stating, “Mr. Combs vehemently denies these offensive and outrageous allegations.” Brafman also revealed that Ventura had demanded $30 million over the past six months under the threat of writing a damaging book about their relationship. Despite rejecting this demand, Ventura has now resorted to filing a lawsuit, according to Brafman.
Combs, 54, is the founder of the music label Bad Boy, credited with significant contributions to the growth of the hip-hop genre. He has won three Grammys and received 14 nominations throughout his career. Among his notable tracks are “I’ll Be Missing You,” “It’s All About the Benjamins,” and “Bad Boy for Life.” In addition to his musical success, Combs has established himself as a prominent producer and entrepreneur.
Ventura, 37, gained recognition for her R&B hit “Me & U” from her 2006 self-titled debut album released under Combs’ Bad Boy label. Having worked with artists like Lil Wayne and Akon, she was also an employee of Bad Boy Records from 2005 to 2019, according to the complaint. This legal development adds a layer of complexity to the public personas of both Combs and Ventura, shaping the narrative around their past relationship.
