Drake had been executing the rollout of his ninth studio album, Iceman, for months. But no one was prepared for what he did on his release date. Drizzy dropped not one, not two, but three new projects on Friday (May 15).
Akademiks Explains Why Drake Dropped Three New Albums
Many have suggested that Drake dropped Habithi and Maid of Honour, in addition to Iceman, to fulfill his contractual obligations with Universal Music Group (UMG). Which would make sense given that he is in an ongoing legal battle with the label. However, according to DJ Akademiks, Drake dropping a trifecta of new albums was even more calculated than it seems on the surface.
During a recent stream, Akademiks revealed a conversation that he recently had with the rap star. With Iceman being all the hype right now, Drake believes that down the line Habiti and Maid of Honour will become more relevant. Which would obviously benefit him in the long run.
“We both agreed, and he’s like, ‘Yo, this is why I’m different from these guys.’ He’s like, ‘Yo, months later, while these guys are wondering why their guy can’t drop nothing. All the girls are gonna be at the party singing all the HABIBTI songs. And in June, MAID OF HONOUR is gonna be going crazy,” Akademiks said. During a recent stream as caught by Kurrco on X.
The media personality also took a dig at Kendrick Lamar in the process.
“My man knows demographics, something that the crip-walking champion does not know. Y’all boy like, ‘Squabble Up, Squabble Up. All that sh*t, man, we ain’t trying to do burpees to no song,” he added.
Akademiks says he talked to Drake about him dropping three albums at once:

Iceman is currently projected to move over 500k units in its first week, which would put it in the top spot on the Billboard Hot 200.
