The 68th annual Grammy Awards took place this past Sunday (February 1). And in the aftermath of the awards ceremony, many people were left feeling disappointed. One of those people was Joe. Budden.
Budden Disappointed About Kendrick’s Grammy Win
Kendrick Lamar took home the award for Best Rap Album for his sixth studio album, GNX, on Sunday. This left Budden feeling disappointed. Not because he felt that Kendrick was undeserving. He just wanted to see Clipse take home the award.
“I wanted Clipse to win,” Budden said. “But as I was watching, I was like, ‘Okay, it’s still levels.’ Like, Hip Hop had me wanting Clipse to win… But once you see Doechii up there presenting, you see Kendrick got dressed, and you see that he’s still there. Once he won early, I was like, ‘Okay, he wants to get the f*ck out of here.’ But once the show is going and he’s still sitting there…”

Clipse dropped their first project in 15 years this past July. The album, Let God Sort Em Out, created significant buzz in the music industry. The album sold approximately 118,000 equivalent album units in its first week, debuting at #4 on the Billboard 200. This marked the brothers’ highest chart debut in over 20 years.
Clipse did end up winning their first Grammy Award of their careers. They took home the award for Best Rap Performance for the song “Chains & Whips,” which ironically features Kendrick Lamar.
Budden went on to say that he is happy as long as Clipse didn’t go home empty-handed.
“As long as Clipse got a win, I’m fine… I’m not frustrated with Kendrick winning that one,” he concluded.
It was a historic night for Lamar as well. His five wins on Sunday brought his award total to 27. Surpassing rap legend Jay-Z, who previously held the record with 26 wins.
