Durk will have a tough hill to climb in the coming months. But he was able to score at least one recent victory. According to a recent report from Billboard, his lyrics will not be admissible in his upcoming trial.

Lil Durk’s Lyrics Will Not Be Admissible in Upcoming Trial

The initial indictment against Durk cited lyrics from his song “Wonderful Wayne & Jackie Boy.”

On the track he raps: “Told me they got an addy (go, go)/ Got location (go, go)/ Green light (go, go, go, go, go). Look on the news and see your son/You screamin’, ‘No, no’ (pu***y).”

Prosecutors initially believed this to be an admission of guilt. In reference to an alleged hit against Durk’s nemesis Quando Rondo, which left one person dead.

But according to the outlet, a recently updated indictment has pulled the lyrics from evidence. This came in light of the defense’s argument that the song was released several months before the alleged hit against Quando Rondo.

Durk’s family also protested that the lyrics should not be considered admissible in court. Calling the attempted use of the lyrics “false evidence.”

“The recent developments in Durk’s legal case have brought a harsh truth to light. The government presented false evidence to a grand jury to indict him. So this isn’t justice. That’s a violation of the very system that’s supposed to protect all of us,” the family said in a reel posted to the rapper’s Instagram page on April 29.

Durk’s family also added that the government’s decision to use his lyrics as evidence is just the latest case of another rapper’s “creativity” being “criminalized”.

“Durk has always used music to tell stories, to express pain to heal,” his family added.

“And yet those same lyrics are now being used against him. We refuse to stay silent as Black artists continue to be criminalized for their creativity. Rap is art.”
