Matt Damon is one of the most critically-acclaimed actors working today. Right before he takes a starring role in Christopher Nolan’s heavily-anticipated The Odyssey, he’s trying something much different…rap music.
Why Is Matt Damon Rapping?
The Academy Award-winning actor has teamed up with Hit-Boy to raise awareness for his new charity Get Blue, which aims to help end the global water crisis. He founded this charity along with Gary White, the founder of a clean water charity WaterPartners, which then combined with Damon’s previous water charity to make this new initiative.
The satirical promo sees Damon and Hit-Boy discussing working on a song to help get the message out, with Damon dressed in a blue hoodie and sweats that seem like a nod to 8 Mile.
Damon doesn’t quite give people a sweet 16, but does offer a couple bars about water awareness.
The winking satirical promo comes as Damon gears up for what should be an eventful year. His starring role in The Odyssey isn’t the only thing he’s getting into. He’s also helping produce his best friend Ben Affleck’s latest film Animals, a crime thriller kidnapping film starring Affleck, Gillian Anderson, Kerry Washington, Adriana Paz, Ray Fisher, and Steven Yeun.

How Did Fans React to The Nomad’s Bars?
Despite most knowing the skit was a joke, many fans didn’t see much humor in Matt Damon’s promo.
“I know this is satire but even as satire i HATE this trope,” one user posted.
“PLease tell me that this is a joke I luv Matt but this is really, well, kinda not his thing,” another user posted.
“That’s not…necessary, Matt. You do enough,” another user posted.
One fan though seemed to dig it enough to extend an invitation to Damon, and other white actors who’ve tried to rap.
“Mark Wahlberg, Joey Fatone, Donnie Wahlberg, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon all grew up listening to hip hop. Them n***** are invited to the cookout!,” another user posted.
You can catch Damon most likely not rapping in The Odyssey on July 17th.
