Offset is back in legal headlines after a security guard filed a civil lawsuit accusing the Atlanta rapper of assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress over an incident at a Los Angeles dispensary earlier this year.
According to court docs obtained by TMZ, the suit was filed by Jim Leobardo Sanchez, a guard working at MedMen near LAX, who says the Migos member turned violent after being asked to show ID during a visit in March. Sanchez claims Offset got “hostile” and “verbally confrontational” before striking him in the face, and that members of the rapper’s entourage joined in the attack.
Sanchez says paramedics treated him at the scene before he was taken to Centinela Hospital, where he received emergency care, medication and treatment for injuries he says are still affecting him physically, emotionally, and financially. He’s seeking more than $25,000 in general, special and punitive damages — and wants the case decided by a jury.
Offset’s team has already pushed back, painting a very different picture. A rep for the rapper says the guard was the aggressor, claiming he rushed Offset, got in his face, and even spat on him before things escalated. Sources close to Offset also say the guard responded with mace after being punched.
The lawsuit was filed by attorneys Michael T. Karikomi and Savion Cotten of Katchko, Vitiello & Karikomi, PC. While Offset has dealt with his share of legal issues in the past, he’s largely managed to avoid major convictions in recent years — but this case could put him back in a courtroom spotlight.
No court date has been set yet, and Offset has not issued a personal statement — but the rapper’s team appears ready to fight it.
