Anthony Griffin, a 44-year-old Bronx-based battle rapper known as “Fox 5,” was shot and killed by officers with the New York Police Department on April 11, 2026, following a violent machete attack inside Grand Central Terminal.
According to authorities, the incident unfolded around 9:50 a.m. on a subway platform, where Griffin allegedly attacked three elderly individuals ranging in age from 65 to 85. The victims sustained serious injuries, including head lacerations and a shoulder wound, but survived the assault.
Two NYPD detectives responding to the scene confronted Griffin and repeatedly ordered him to drop the weapon—reportedly issuing more than 20 commands. Witnesses described Griffin as behaving erratically and claiming to be “Lucifer” during the encounter. When he advanced toward officers with the machete, one detective discharged his weapon, striking Griffin twice. He was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Known in underground Hip-Hop circles as “Fox 5,” Griffin was a recognizable figure in the Bronx battle rap scene throughout the late 2000s and 2010s. He built a reputation for his high-energy performances, appearances in the 2 Raw For the Streets video series, and competitive freestyle battles.
In a resurfaced interview, Griffin once made a haunting statement about his future notoriety, saying he chose the name “Fox 5” because he believed he would one day become a “newsflash.”
Friends and peers described him as passionate about music and possessing a good heart, but noted significant behavioral changes in recent years. Following the death of his mother, some say Griffin struggled with mental health challenges that appeared to intensify over time.
The incident remains under investigation.

I literally said prayers for the victims and not him. What more do you want me to say? I also said he had mental issues. https://t.co/D5S4Rgk5eq
