Jack Harlow’s new album, Monica, has been the talk of the music industry since its release. And not for good reason either. So, of course, the Saturday Night Live crew had to weigh in on the new project.
SNL Roasts Jack Harlow’s New Album
During a recent appearance on the New York Times Popcast podcast, Harlow discussed the process of recording the album. And insisted that he “got blacker” during the process.
During Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update, “Harlow” addressed his comments about the process.
He starts by saying that while he was at home for the holidays, he was trying to find his new sound. Which almost “ruined [his] Kwaanza.”
He also addressed the criticism of the new album. And the clever nicknames for his new persona, such as “Mos Definitely not,” “LL Cool J,” “Jay-ZZ Top,” but didn’t seem too bothered by it. Because roasting is what “we” do.
He also spit a little “freestyle” at the end of his segment.

The real Jack Harlow also appeared to be humored by the segment. He even noted that his aunt texted him and congratulated him on his appearance.

Harlow’s latest album falls under the neo soul genre. And though Harlow may have seen making the switch as a bold move that should be applauded, Charlamagne isn’t feeling it at all.
“I’m a neo-soul junkie. I love the Jill Scotts of the world, the Erykah Badus, whatever you wanna call that genre. That ain’t it, bruh,” he said during a recent episode of The Breakfast Club (via HotNewHipHop/X).
“Let me tell you something, I like Jack Harlow. I’ve met Jack Harlow, we’ve interviewed Jack Harlow, and Jack is a nice guy. But I told y’all on Friday that this album made him whiter. And saying the music ‘made you blacker’ is exactly why I said this album made him whiter… You gotta be really white to say that this music made you blacker.”
