T.I. Speaks On Jordan Edwards

It seems like far too often news is received that an unarmed Black Youth has been killed at the hands of law enforcement. Over the weekend 15 year old Jordan Edwards was killed by Officer Roy Olivier. According to police accounts police were called out to investigate reports of underage drinking at a house party. After arriving, police say that they hear what sounds like gunshots. As a car full of teenagers is approaching the officers in reverse in what is described to be an aggressive manner Officer Olivier opens fire on the vehicle. When Olivier opened fire he struck 15 year old High School freshman Jordan Edwards in the head through a passenger-side door. Edwards died at the hospital.

The outrage of this story has been tremendous yet far too familiar. Much of the public is using their voices on social media through hashtags in remembrance of Jordan Edwards. Emphasizing that Edwards was a student with a 3.5 grade point average in hopes that there won’t be room for media to depict him as a troubled teen. Atlanta rapper T.I. posted a picture of Edwards with a quote from Edwards’ coach as T.I. added the caption “Ain’t no BLACK POWER when we let them kill our babies!!!”.

T.I. has been very vocal of late about issues that affect urban communities. Especially police brutality. Hopefully we can see justice served in the Jordan Edwards case.
