Ye will reportedly not face cancellation in the Netherlands. Despite losing shows due to government intervention in the UK, Poland, and a postponement in France, the Arnhem mayor says he will not intervene.
What Did Arnhem’s Mayor Say About Ye’s Shows
In an interview with Dutch publication NRC, Ahmed Marcouch, the mayor of the city Ye is scheduled to perform in, made clear his stance.
“Members of Parliament have the power to make laws, so instead of constantly posting all kinds of messages on X, they can also limit behavior they deem undesirable by law,” Marcouch told Dutch outlet NRC. He also made it clear he found West’s past antisemitic remarks “disgusting.”
He also said Ye’s permit to play the show was still in process of approval. Marcouch made clear he didn’t think politicians should involve themselves in policing cultural activity.
“It concerns freedom of expression,” he said. “If the organization meets the requirements of the permit, then we simply have to grant that permit.”
Previously, Deputy Prime Minister Bart Van den Brink explained that there’s “no legal basis” to ban Ye from entering the Netherlands to perform for now.
Mayor Marcouch seems to agree with the minister, unless laws are adjusted or Ye makes more antisemitic remarks.
“Making racist and antisemitic statements is already a punishable offense, but he has to make them first,” Marcouch said. “Now it concerns someone who did something in the past and, for that reason, would not be allowed to come to the Netherlands. Regarding that, the Minister rightly said, ‘There is no legal basis for that.’”
Marcouch says he won’t act unless the Minister deems it necessary.
“If the Minister comes to that conclusion after all the indignation and calls from the House, then you shouldn’t start shouting again that someone is not allowed to come,” Marcouch said. “Then you have to create a legal basis so that the Minister can do those kinds of things.”

What’s Going On With Ye’s Other Shows?
Ye’s next show is scheduled to take place in New Delhi, India on May 23rd. He has other shows scheduled for Istanbul, Madrid, Portugal, and Italy.
Ye previously was slated for other shows, including a headlining spot at UK’s Wireless Festival. However, lawmakers from the UK, Poland, and France spoke out against the rapper for his antisemitic statements. This lead to a ban in the UK, and potential ban in France.
West has since issued several apologies.
