Among his nods are three of the show’s most prestigious honors: Artist of the Year, Album of the Year (GNX) and Song of the Year (“Not Like Us”).
Lamar, who already has three AMA wins to his name, could tie Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston for the most awards in a single year should he win in eight of the ten categories.
Further cementing his dominance, Lamar landed three of the five slots in the Favorite Hip-Hop Song category. His entries include “Like That” with Future and Metro Boomin, “Not Like Us,” and “luther” with SZA).
Other hip-hop artists up for awards include Drake, Doechii, Playboi Carti, Future, The Weekend, PartyNextDoor and others.
Jennifer Lopez will host the 51st AMAs, which goes down live from Las Vegas at 8p ET on May 26. Fans can watch on CBS or stream on Paramount+ in the U.S.
Kendrick Continues Throwing Jabs at Drake
The good news arrives just as Kendrick opened his Grand National world tour with frequent collaborators Mustard and SZA. The ‘luther’ co-star boasts six AMA nominations of her own including Artist of the Year and Favorite Female R&B Artist.
They kicked off the tour this past weekend (April 19) in Minneapolis. During the show, Kendrick took a subtle jab at Drizzy with a courtroom skit — appearing to mock Drake’s current lawsuit against the Universal Music Group label over the distribution of Kendrick’s ‘Not Like Us.’
